Becoming an AMSOIL Dealer: what it costs and what it involves

An AMSOIL Dealer is an independent business owner who buys AMSOIL at wholesale and earns commission on what they and their customers buy. You apply online and pay the $100 USD annual Dealer fee. AMSOIL says there are no inventory requirements and no sales quotas, and AMSOIL takes the orders, collects payment, and ships the product.

What is an AMSOIL Dealer?

An independent business, not an AMSOIL employee. Dealers buy AMSOIL at Dealer pricing, can sell to retail customers, shops, and commercial accounts, and can register Preferred Customers and other Dealers. Every Dealer has to identify themselves as an independent AMSOIL Dealer in ads, content, and messages, and can’t present themselves as AMSOIL INC. or an official AMSOIL store.

AMSOIL handles the transaction: it takes orders, handles invoicing, collects payment, and delivers the product. The Dealer’s job is the customer relationship and local service.

Who can become a Dealer?

AMSOIL’s Dealer Policies & Procedures list the requirements. You must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Live in the U.S. or Canada.
  • Have a valid Social Security Number (U.S.) or Social Insurance Number (Canada).
  • Submit a complete, accurate application and a signed Dealer Agreement that AMSOIL accepts.
  • Pay the Dealer fee.

Owners and agents of some businesses can’t register, such as businesses with 25 or more retail locations, businesses that mainly resell online or through catalogs, and regional or national distributors of auto supplies or petroleum products. Spouses can register a Dealership jointly.

What Dealers can and can’t do online

This is where a lot of people are surprised. AMSOIL Dealers may not sell, advertise, or post prices of AMSOIL products, memorabilia, or memberships on online auction, marketplace, or classified sites such as eBay, Amazon, and craigslist. Any mention of wholesale pricing has to say it is available only by registering as a Preferred Customer, Dealer, or account. Your customers order on AMSOIL.com using your Dealer number, and you earn the commission.

That is why this site sends you to AMSOIL.com for prices instead of listing them.

How do AMSOIL Dealers earn?

AMSOIL says each product has a defined profit value, and every time you or one of your customers or accounts buys, you earn a commission. Dealers can also sponsor other Dealers, which AMSOIL says can add to income, but sponsoring is not required.

AMSOIL’s own disclaimer is the honest answer to “how much?” Building a successful Dealership takes skill, hard work, and time. There is no guarantee that you will attain any specific level of sales, income, or profit, and AMSOIL encourages you to analyze the opportunity for your own abilities and circumstances. I won’t add numbers to that.

Dealer or Preferred Customer?

If you only want AMSOIL for your own vehicles, a Preferred Customer membership buys at the same wholesale level for less. The side-by-side is on AMSOIL dealer pricing: Preferred Customer vs Dealer.

What it looks like from Wasilla

I registered as an AMSOIL Dealer in 2013 and run 907 Synthetics from Wasilla. Most of the work is matching the right oil to a truck, sled, wheeler, or bike, and answering questions by phone and email from around the state. If you are weighing it, call or email me and I will tell you what the day-to-day is like. More about me is on the about page.

Becoming an AMSOIL Dealer, answered

Do I have to sell anything as an AMSOIL Dealer?

No. AMSOIL’s FAQ says Dealers are not required to sell AMSOIL products. Some Dealers register mainly to buy for their own use; others build a business. There are no sales quotas.

Is there a minimum order or inventory requirement?

AMSOIL says there are no inventory requirements and no quotas. AMSOIL ships orders directly to your customers, so you don’t have to carry stock. Dealers can choose to buy personal inventory, but it is not required.

Can I get a refund if a Dealership isn’t for me?

Yes, within 30 days. AMSOIL says you can return the Dealer Starter Kit, complete and in resalable condition, within 30 days and it will refund your registration fee in full. AMSOIL’s policies say you return it at your own expense, and that no Dealership fees are refunded if you cancel early after that.

Can I sell AMSOIL on Amazon or eBay?

No. AMSOIL says Dealers may not sell, advertise, or post prices of current or discontinued AMSOIL products, memorabilia, or memberships online, including eBay, Amazon, and craigslist. Your customers order on AMSOIL.com under your Dealer number instead.

Can my spouse be on the Dealership?

Yes. AMSOIL’s Dealer policies allow individuals or spouses to register jointly, recognize one Dealership per married couple, and let a Dealer add or remove a spouse with a form in the Dealer Zone.

Do I have to recruit other Dealers?

No. AMSOIL says you are not required to sponsor other Dealers. Sponsoring is optional.

How much money do AMSOIL Dealers make?

I won’t quote numbers, and neither does AMSOIL. AMSOIL states that building a successful Dealership takes skill, hard work, and time, that there is no guarantee of any specific level of sales, income, or profit, and it encourages you to do your own analysis of the opportunity.
