The 907 problem
Most engine wear happens before the oil is warm.
Conventional oil carries wax. At twenty below that wax is a gel, and the first ten seconds after you crank are a dry start. AMSOIL was the first API-qualified synthetic in 1972 because chemically engineered molecules do not do that.
Fredric Riech specs the grade, the filter, and the interval for Mat-Su trucks, Interior diesels, sleds, and boats — then the order ships from the closest AMSOIL center. Call if you want a human instead of a lookup.

Cold-start gauge
Drag the temperature. This is an educational model of pour point and cold cranking — not a substitute for the OEM spec on your dipstick.
-20°F
- Sluggish — wear window
Conventional 5W-30
Wax crystals. Fine in the Lower 48, a brick in a Wasilla driveway.
Pour point -22°F
- Pumps and protects
AMSOIL Signature Series 0W-20
No wax. Built to pump on a −40° morning and still hold a 25,000-mile drain.
Pour point -58°F
- Pumps and protects
AMSOIL Max-Duty 0W-40 Diesel
Four times better cold-cranking than 15W-40. The diesel grade for the Interior.
Pour point -54°F

The oils we actually put in Alaskan engines
01
Signature Series
Up to 25,000 miles / 1 year
The flagship. 75% more engine protection against horsepower loss and wear than a leading industry standard requires. The oil people mean when they say AMSOIL.
02
XL Synthetic
Up to 12,000 miles / 1 year
A step up from conventional without the Signature Series interval. Strong cold flow, OEM-spec coverage, and a price that pays back on the second change.
03
OE Synthetic
OEM drain interval
100% synthetic protection at the interval your owner's manual already calls for. The cleanest upgrade from whatever is on the parts-store shelf.
04
Signature Series Max-Duty Diesel
Severe-duty diesel service
0W-40 pours at -54°F. Four times better cold-cranking than a 15W-40. Turbo cleanliness and soot control for work trucks that never see a garage.
05
Metric Motorcycle Oils
Up to 2× OEM / 1 year
The metric series: 10W-40 MCF is the bottle most Japanese and Euro bikes spec. Wet-clutch JASO MA2, no friction modifiers, shared-sump protection. 10W-30, 5W-40, and 15W-50 in the same family.

What viscosity actually starts at 20 below
0W is not a marketing flourish in the Mat-Su. A field guide to pour point, cold-cranking, and which AMSOIL grades belong in an Alaskan crankcase.

How to check power steering fluid (and when to change it)
Icy roads, heavy snow, and a pump that groans on the first cold turn. A 10-minute check that saves a $1,000 rack.

Fuel system maintenance is not optional on modern engines
GDI, turbos, and a winter of short trips leave carbon where port injection used to wash it off. Here is the cheap habit that keeps the check-engine light off.

Why synthetic beats conventional every time
Conventional oil is refined crude: wax, sulfur, and molecules that were never designed to lubricate. A synthetic is built for the job, which is why it starts at 40 below and can stay in for a year.
